One of the flagship LEGO Technic sets is the Motorized Excavator 8043 set. It is a complex build that features full remote control with a wide range of movement.

It comes with dual infrared remote controls to move the cabin 360 degrees, the articulated arm can dig and the entire excavator can move on it’s tracks.

There is so much fun to be had after completing the model. After all, a normal remote control car can only go forward or reverse. With the Motorized Excavator 8043 you can also move the bucket to shovel stuff.

The retail price of $199.99 may seem expensive for a set with just over a thousand pieces but it comes with dual remotes, 4 motors, 2 receivers, 4 linear actuators and a battery box. All these power function parts cost quite a fare bit if bought separately.

As with most LEGO Technic sets, there is an alternate build for a tracked loader. If not for the cost, it would be fun to have two sets built, one of each design. That way, two people can play with the remote control functions to recreate a construction site.

As the set was discontinued recently, grab this set while it’s still available in shops. If you like technic and construction models, check out the 2013 Mobile Crane MK II 42009 as an alternative.
