LEGO has been releasing a yearly seasonal theme for the Christmas period since 2009. It is called the Winter Village series.

Year 2009 – Winter Village Toy Shop
Year 2010 – Winter Village Bakery
Year 2011 – Winter Village Post Office
Year 2012 – Winter Village Cottage

And for 2013, they have just released photos of the upcoming Winter Village Market 10235. Some people have been collecting this series to have a bit of holiday fun and LEGO time with family. However the sets have not really been a must buy for me until this year.

The great thing about the Winter Village Market 10235 is that it’s made up of a few smaller builds. And the crown jewel is the mini carousel.

From the pictures, it looks like there is some gearing so that you could manually turn a knob built into the side booth to make the carousel go round and round.

LEGO did make a now out of production advanced model called the Grand Carousel 10196 in 2009. And it was not called grand for nothing. The set was motorized and even had a sound brick to create a mini carnival scene. It’s now almost impossible to find and cost quite a bit even for a second hand set.

I had a crazy idea to recreate the Grand Carousel 10196 into a Mini Carousel. Or maybe call it the Petite Carousel. Oh well, LEGO must have heard me and released this Winter Village Market 10235. So yes, I’ll be looking forward to the release of this set.

Update:

The set is now available from LEGO.com and for October 2013, there is double VIP points, free shipping above $75 and a free holiday set above $99.
