The LEGO Group released a Halloween theme called the Monster Fighters in 2012. It was a success and very popular.
One of the sets that really caught the attention of many fans is the largest set in the series, the Haunted House 10228. Another popular set is the Vampyre Castle 9468.
It was only recently that I browsed through the sets in the Monster Fighter series and bought the Vampyre Hearse 9464. I love lego vehicles and was surprised that I had overlooked this set before.
In this set, the main build is the Vampyre Hearse and included is a cool motorcycle of the Monster Fighter, Dr. Rodney Rathbone.
The Vampyre Hearse is a jet black hot rod. There is a huge engine up front with large wheels at the back creating an aggressive go fast look.
Usage of bones and red pieces contrast well with the jet black car further giving it a spooky look. There are some technic pieces that allow Vampyre to be flicked out of the coffin.
The coffin has some design which is printed on while the design on the roof is a glow in the dark sticker.
For the motorcycle, it is a pretty standard LEGO piece but it does come with some nice accessories like flames, gun and dynamite.
There is a total of three minifigures. The other two are the Vampyre and the Zombie driver. Vampyre has a glow in the dark head.
The minifigures are not unique to this set and can be found in other sets in the Monster Fighter series. Vampyre minifigure comes without the cape in this set but the printing and design is the same in other sets.
As such, some people may skip this set for those who want to collect the complete series of Monster Fighter minifigures.
Due to the repeat minifigures and the slightly higher price per brick compared to the other sets in this series, it may not seem to be a worthwhile buy.
However, I only have the Haunted House 10228 from the Monster Fighters theme and this Vampyre Hearse will go well with it. Also, the two minifigs of Dr. Rodney Rathbone and the Zombie Driver from the Vampyre Hearse do not overlap with those in the Haunted House. There will only be one spare minifigure of Vampyre.
